Recent years in Libya, as 2007's census with over 13,000 workers from Sri Lanka and some from other Buddhist countries (about 12,000 Koreans and over 2,000 citizens from China) that make up about 0.3% of total population of Libya are Buddhists, thus making Libya the country with the one of highest proportion of Buddhists in the whole North Africa. But in Libya there are still no Buddhist pagodas or temples.

  • 2/3 in total Buddhists in Libya are Theravada. Remaining 1/3 is the East Asian Buddhism followed by numbers of Koreans and Han Chinese descents.
