Buddhism in North America is largely led by the United States, where about 2% of the total population is Buddhist. A regular influx of immigration from Asia has led to higher numbers of Buddhists in America and to Canada. In recent decades there has been increasing numbers of converts to Buddhism and several modern Buddhist teachers who themselves, were born into other religions and converted to Buddhism later in life.
