Three essential qualities in one who teaches Dhamma:
1. The teacher is able to penetrate the letter and spirit of the teachings
2. The one hears is able to do so too
3. Both teacher and listener are able to do both of these
(from Majjhima Nikaya 137, Digha Nikaya 12)
