Sydney is the largest and most populous city in Australia and the state capital of New South Wales. Sydney is located on Australia's southeast coast of the Tasman Sea. Inhabitants of Sydney are called Sydneysiders, comprising a cosmopolitan and international population of people from numerous places around the world.

Sydney is home to several Buddhist temples, meditation centers, and viharas. About 2.1% of the population is Buddhist.

About 80 km south of Sydney is the largest Buddhist temple in the Southern Hemisphere, Nan Tien Temple.
