ABOUT THERAVADA SOCIETY
TS IS A LAY BUDDHIST SOCIETY PRIMARILY DEDICATED TO HELPING SERIOUS-MINDED PEOPLE IN ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRIES WHO WANT, FOR WHATEVER REASON, TO LEARN ABOUT THE BUDDHAS TEACHINGS.
Therefore, the main concern of TS is to assist people in getting to the stage of reading the Buddha\'s discourses for themselves. To this end, we produce original introductory material designed to meet the needs of people living in modern western societies. Inevitably, most Buddhist material is written with Asian people in mind.
In contacting, TS in order to learn about the Buddhas Teachings, people may be completely assured that no one is ever asked to become a Buddhist or to accept any Buddhist ideas or practices. THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN THE BUDDHAS TEACHINGS
It should be obvious that learning about Buddhism for getting guidance on living more wisely and happily in this world is just one among many different reasons why people seek information about the Buddhas Teachings. For example, students doing research or working on projects, people just interested in Buddhism as part of Asian culture, others having an interest in the history of ideas, people interested in how Buddhist perspectives might relate to their own profession ie economists, psychologists, social workers etc. Many people are just interested in Buddhist perspectives on social problems etc.
INVESTIGATING THE BUDDHA\'S TEACHINGS FOR ONESELF So, for whatever reason you wish to investigate what the Buddha taught, ALL are equally welcome to apply for the free information pack on Theravada Buddhism- the oldest tradition of Buddhism.
The TS information pack is designed to help people gain a good understanding of the Theravada tradition of Buddhism. After this background information is assimilated one is appropriately prepared to independently investigate the Buddhas Teaching and specifically to start reading the Buddhas discourses (some key examples are given in the information pack) for oneself. Therefore, if you think TS may be able to help you investigate the Buddhas Teachings, then you are most welcome to contact us.

If after studying the information pack, you want to do more reading in Buddhism TS can supply suitable books at modest cost and answer any basic queries which may arise. This service is limited to people new to Buddhisms can also help overseas folk who are interested in learning about the Buddha Teachings.
