As of September 2008, sculptors have almost finished work on world’s largest (reclining) Buddha statue Wednesday in Yiyang County of East China’s Jiangxi Province. The gigantic rock work, whose construction started on May 1st,2002, measures 68-meter-high and 416-meter-long. It will be the biggest image of a human being ever created, in the known history of mankind.
The reclining posture is the position the Buddha had when passing away to parinibbana.
